Project Description

On the Eastside of the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Lone Pine, California there is a scene that was used so often in movie Westerns that it was renamed,  “The Movie Road.”  While waiting for the sun to rise, I made a 7-panel panorama with a Canon 5D MII.  To place the areas of interest in the sweet spot of the 24-105mm Zoom lens, a 40mm setting was used and the camera was mounted vertically and each image overlapped approximately 30%.  The resulting merged file is almost 1 GB in size.  Size and resolution limits of the Website prevent appreciating the subtlety and grace of this image.

Each exposure was 3 sec at f10 at ISO 100.  To achieve the maximum possible uniformity between images, all automatic functions such as focus, exposure and lens stabilization were turned off.
